We are raising athletes in a world their brains were never built for. Constant scrolling, notifications, and digital pressure are draining attention, increasing anxiety, and holding back potential. On January 19, COR.E Performance Specialist Walter Aguilar and Mental Game Academy founder Larissa Mills team up to break down exactly how social media is shaping your hockey player and what you can do as a parent to support healthy, high-performing habits that last.
Walter Aguilar is a COR.E Performance Dynamics Specialist and founder of Power vs Force Coaching. Larissa Mills is an established Cognitive Behavioural Sports Consultant with a BA in sociology and psychology and a Master of Science in Education specializing in brain functionality and learning. Over her thirty year coaching career, she has worked across multiple sports and seen firsthand why many young athletes struggle to reach their potential. Her research revealed a powerful link between digital overload, social media behavior, and parenting patterns that directly affect an athlete’s focus, confidence, communication, and overall development.
In response, Larissa founded The Mental Game Academy. This hybrid educational platform blends cognitive behavioral training, sport psychology, and real world life skills to support the modern digital athlete. Her mission is to elevate the entire youth sports ecosystem by equipping athletes, parents, and coaches with the tools needed to build stronger minds, healthier habits, and well-rounded, resilient individuals who can thrive in sport and in life.
